Checklist

  • I have searched for existing issues/discussions and didn't find any similar ones.
  • I haven't used any other scripts, tools or programs that might have caused this issue.

Windows version

Windows 11 24H2 26100.6899

Script mode/options

Any, simplest is custom with just disabling telemetry

Describe the issue

Most changes are skipped by "registry editing has been disabled by your administrator" on work PC

Steps to reproduce

  1. Block registry editing via group policy
  2. Run script

Error output

> Disabling telemetry, diagnostic data, activity history, app-lunch tracking and targeted adds...
ERROR: Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator

Additional context

The group policy is really stupid, as it only disables regedit.exe but not real registry access, which can still be modified by things like Set-ItemProperty or .NET APIs.

LesFerch/WinSetView#127 worked around this by recreating regedit.exe in C#.
