Replacement for sed

Is there a way to edit the JSON with fx? It would be really cool.

Right now to edit version in package.json I need to use sed:

This is from Makefile in one of my projects:

package.json: .$(VERSION)
	$(SED) -i 's/"version": "[^"]\+"/"version": "$(VERSION)"/' package.json

Is there something like -i from sed? Because on Linux redirecting to same file that is read, clear the file.

No, right now you have to redirect to a separate file, and mv the file.

I will think about adding -i flag.

I added a new function: save

save works as edit-in-place.

Or use the sponge utility from moreutils.

A little more typing, but once you install&learn it you can do in-place editing with any pipeline.
