Always show settings value, even those set to Automatic

Feature description

On the main view of the app, I would like to see the value of all my settings even those set to Automatic

Thanks to the recent feature indicators, we now see the settings on the main view on the app and clicking on these redirects to the corresponding setting section.

But when a setting is set to Automatic, it is not displayed on the main view. But I want to know what value my settings actually use. Besides, it would just make things homogeneous and easier so I can click on it (like a normal feature indicator) and change it whenever I want. Right now, I still have to navigate to find the setting.

Example: Settings > VPN settings > WireGuard settings > Obfuscation > Automatic

Just to clarify that it is not confusion behind this feature request. Currently the "active feature" indicators reflects your current connection. So if e.g obfuscation is set to Automatic, and it is then connected with no obfuscation that won't be shown. However, if you happen to connect with say "Shadowsocks" when using Automatic it will then show "Shadowsocks", since that is applied on your connection. Showing automatic instead would then not describe what is actually used on your connection.

How it currently works in Automatic is that it will first try w/o obfuscation and then tries a series of other obfuscation methods on following attempts (along with changing other settings that it is allowed to). At the moment this strategy is not very smart, and it basically tries on after another, however this is something we plan to change.

Yes, I do believe you misunderstand that PR, it migrated users from Off (meaning strictly off and never on) to automatic. With Automatic the control of obfuscation is handed over to the app, where we can make decisions to enable a obfuscation or not. E.g for users in censored environment with obfuscation Off, a connection would always fail, while automatic would allow the app to enable e.g Shadowsocks that may circumvent the censorship. At this moment the first attempt to connect is always w/o obfuscation though, so for most users even with Automatic obfuscation is never used.

Ah I see! It makes sense, I really didn't think that option would work like that.

I naively thought Automatic as "default to a specific obfuscation", but of course for people in censored environment that wouldn't work at all. Hence the "nothing > tries something else until it works".

Now, I think this still doesn't (entirely) change the goal of my request:

• To be able to see all settings whatever their value

  Meaning, if one setting is indeed "off" (for instance here, no obfuscation), I would like to see it directly from the main view so I can quickly jump to that setting in one click and change it.

👍 Great that I could clarify it. I do agree with you, the feature indicators makes it easier to turn off things, but it is still as hard to turn them on, it is definitely something that can be improved.

I recently updated MullvadVPN on my Android and saw this:

Show the exact obfuscation method used instead of "Obfuscation" in feature indicators.

Once again "obfuscation" as an example, but this is actually a nice improvement, clearly in line with my feature request.
