Describe your request
I have connected my inverter with serial over USB to my Raspberry Pi. Before I installed Home Assistant I used evcc and NodeRed. In evcc I was able to use the given ModbusProxy to share the USB-Port to evcc and NodeRed.
I hoped that I can use it also on Home Assistant.
Is there a possibility that HA delivers this modbus proxy? Or is it possible that I can deploy a small Python-Program that does the Proxy on the machine?
I know that there are several gadgets I can buy and use. But why do I have to buy a gateway? This gateway needs its own power supply. I have one more network device.
In my opinion a serial to tcp proxy would be best fitted in to the Home Assistant.
Why the uncertainty?
I am new. I use HA for one week.
Is this an integration? Or is it an add-on?
Use cases
A solar power system offers a Modbus connection over RS485. This can pe pluged using a simple and cheap USB-device.
But serial devices don't offer the possibility of sharing. Only one client can access the device. But with Home Assistant I can have more than one device (HA, evcc, Node Red) to read the data from the inverter.
Using the proxy reduces the number of physical devices I need to access the inverter.
