What is JustAJobApp?

Our web app connects to a user’s email inbox, automatically parsing application confirmations, rejections, and interview invitations to populate a dashboard. The tracker lists the company name, job title, application status, and contact date.

Why does JustAJobApp exist?

After being laid off in 2024, I submitted 118 tailored applications, interviewed with 46 companies, and at one point was managing 9 interviews in a single week.

I was so successful with my search (and overwhelmed by manual tracking), that my spreadsheet failed.

I missed an interview.

The market is defined by high volume. Ashby data shows applications per hire have tripled, and 90% of candidates are ghosted. 64% of seekers feel exhausted.

This isn't just an inconvenience. It's a second, unpaid job.

And if you're already managing a full-time role, juggling a family, or acting as a caregiver, you simply do not have time for that. The last thing you have time for is:

• Manually copying and pasting job descriptions into a spreadsheet.
• Sifting through your inbox to find out who you heard back from.

I (and open source contributors) built JustAJobApp.com to create a less stressful job search.

Why Open Source?

The job seeker market is massive- it simply doesn't make sense to keep this closed source:

• We'll develop faster with community input
• Job seekers deserve transparency, especially as victims of layoffs from poor company decisions
• No one unemployed should face paywalls when optimizing their job search

Impact So Far

As part of my initial beta user interviews, I offered free resume reviews to understand job seekers' needs. During one such session:

Over 28 volunteer developers and 150 beta testers helped build what JustAJobApp.com is today. We've tracked over 3,000 applications and 268 interview invites.

What's next for JustAJobApp?

The long-term vision is to build a 'Duolingo for careers' where, instead of learning a language, users log achievements and follow up with professional contacts as an ongoing practice.
